St. Vincent Banana Growers' Association
The Saint Vincent Banana Growers' Association (SVBGA) is the major
governing body for banana exports in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The SVBGA is a statutory body with significant government input and
is involved in all major decision-making policies pertaining to the
growth of the industry.
The Association's functions include registering banana growers; regulating
cultivation and the marketing of bananas and banana plants; and instituting
and undertaking research into the most effective ways of banana production
and cultivation.
Banana export is Saint Vincent and the Grenadine's major foreign income
earner. Though this is to a lesser degree compared to previous years
- when the Windward Islands were granted special concession from Britain
- the SVBGA is solemnly committed to ensuring the vibrancy of this very
vital industry.
